December 2022 newsletter

On Saturday, 26 November 2022, I received the awful news that Simon Gladman, our great friend and colleague, suffered a sudden heart attack from which he was unable to recover.

This will come as a shock to all who knew him – to me, and I’m sure to many, Simon felt like a big brother. He has been a real community leader within our field and beyond, and his passing will leave a gaping hole in so many ways. With his contributions to Galaxy Australia, especially, Simon has left an impressive legacy that will live on. Tributes have already appeared at Galaxy Australia and the Galaxy Community Hub, as well as at Australian BioCommons/Melbourne Bioinformatics. I invite you to send your memories of Simon to Christina Hall for inclusion in a memorial webpage.

We will all be mourning this loss, but our thoughts at this time are especially with Simon’s family and children.

A/Prof Danny Park
