Federal and State Government support for industry engagement
From time to time State and Federal Governments announce innovation schemes which enable support for access for industry to academic resources such as ours. From 2016 as part of the Australian Government’s National Innovation and Science agenda, the Research Connections Programme, administered through AusIndustry, offers $50,000 matched grant funding and access to experienced business facilitators to small and medium business to collaborate with the research sector to develop new ideas with commercial potential. Specifically, the funds can be used for:
- engagement of a Publicly Funded Research Organisation to undertake research activities on the business’ behalf
- the placement of a researcher in the business in order to develop and implement a new idea with commercial potential
- access to research infrastructure
- access to other forms of research capability, as determined by the business research needs assessment.
